Syllabus for winter 2016 POLI 561 Honours Seminar in Political Theory on "Democracy, Representation, and Sortition.

This is a reading-intensive course in which we examine normative theories of democracy and representation (including the question of what justifies democracy), evaluate arguments for and against using lotteries to select representatives, and end by examining the proposal that the Canadian senate be a randomly selected citizen assembly.
